Descent Updates

Devlog: Thank you + Updates!

Ello everyone!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who played and gave feedback on Descent! Your comments, bug reports, and encouragement really helped me make the game better. Here's a rundown of what changed:

Bug Fixes

  • Flinch Threshold Too High - Adjusted it so injuries feel more natural and less like your character is secretly invincible.
  • Dialogues Overlapping When Inspecting - Fixed an issue where multiple dialogue boxes would talk over each other like zeep zorp cat..
  • Checkpoint Not Working - Made sure the checkpoint system actually does its job now. (You’re welcome, past selves.)
  • Exit Button in Game Over Panel Not Working - Clicking "Exit" actually exits the game now instead of trapping you forever. Minor detail, right?

Improvements

  • Graphics (Less RF Noise) - Cleaned up the static noise a bit to make things easier on the eyes without losing the retro vibe.
  • Post Processing Effects - Added some color grading, a nice vignette, and a few retro effects to make the cave look even moodier (and scarier).
  • Text Size Format - Decreased the text size for better consistency and spacing. It looks cleaner now and fits the overall UI much better.
  • UI Health Size - Made the health display more visible because, you know, it’s kind of important when you're bleeding out.
  • Dialogues - Polished up dialogue timing and transitions to feel more natural and immersive.
  • Main Menu Flashlight Effect - Added a spotlight that follows your cursor around the main menu for some extra spooky vibes.

BEFORE:
Before the Descent: A Look at the Early Build
This screenshot is from an earlier version of Descent, back when the cave was even rougher and grittier. Graphics have since been improved for a cleaner and more atmospheric experience. Here is a glimpse at where it all started.
Old Graphics, New UI: Early Climbing Scene
This shot is from an older version of Descent during the first major descent. While the cave visuals were still rough, the user interface was already much cleaner and the text formatting was improved for better readability.
The Crawl: Early Prototype View
This screenshot shows the crawling sequence from an earlier version of Descent. At this stage, the health bar was not very visible and the user interface was still in a rough, unpolished state compared to the current version.

AFTER:
Refined Atmosphere: First Steps Into the Cave
This updated screenshot shows the starting area with improved graphics, better lighting, and a smoother visual atmosphere. The enhanced post-processing effects help create a darker, more immersive feeling right from the beginning.
Climbing Down: A Cleaner, Darker Descent
Here is the climbing section with updated visuals and a polished user interface. Text sizing, health indicators, and ambient effects are much clearer, making the descent feel more intense and readable without losing the tension.
Crawling Through Shadows: Improved UI and Visuals
The crawling sequence now looks sharper with cleaner graphics and a more intuitive interface. Health visibility has been fixed and lighting effects add more weight to the slow, desperate movement through the tight spaces.

Plans

I'm planning to bring Descent to the Play Store eventually! Gotta save up first though... college life has me on that broke student grind. If you enjoyed the game or have more feedback, let me know! It really helps a lot.

Thanks again for playing and supporting my very first release!
